Hi, of course there are bus routes in rural areas in Switzerland. Most of them are operated by PostAuto, but in the canton of Geneva, the sole transit authority is TPG, and therefore all routes belong to them, urban or rural (there aren’t really any interurban routes as the canton contains only 1 proper city, Geneva). They then give out some of these routes to other operators (which then paint their buses in the TPG livery) to minimize costs.

To compare, I don't remember any rural bus routes in USA. There are some intercity buses, but no local rural bus. Maybe that is because there is no village, only singe farmers' houses. There are only school buses picking up children from those farms.
